AwesomerAbe, you're an arrogant ass, and need to shut the hell up promptly. Who the fuck said that NIN was about "darkness" and that Trent had a tortured life? The music is what it is, nothing more. You didn't have to be raped as a child or see your parents die in a flaming car crash to make music that happens to be a little somber and, at times, angry. Its WHO HE IS. People change over the years, and sometimes your music reflects that. Sometimes it doesn't. One does not equal the other.

gotta understand something, he was influenced by prince/bowie/ministry/skinny puppy/kiss lol.. here's the thing though.. this might have been cheezey shit and the prince influence might seem "dumb" but listen closely to the influences of pretty hate machine.. without all those influences, he'd just have ended up some either dumb metal hair band or stuck with corny pop, but the expiermental dance in exotic birds and different sounds on phm proved a great combination to give it that signature soun
