You people are so gullible! This is not done by psychology, hyponosis, NLP or any other kind of psychobabble. It is just a magic trick, as is nearly everything Derren does. This particular trick is achieved by simply putting a winning barcode on a losing ticket. I've seen it done elsewhere, without the performer claiming it was done with psychology!

I swear this is not fake, before I knew NLP I already did stuff like this and it worked, not all the time but it worked!!

I was going to say lol! If this system worked then Derren Brown could have made 100 times whatever they pay him to make a TV show by ripping off bookies.
Cashing in on losing tickets would be like a licence to print money.

cont ...
3) Pattern B is telling the customer that it was dog X that won the last race. So the Teller is in the middle of Pattern B and
4) BANG .. pattern interrupt ... and
5) Switch pattern by 'this is the DOG you are looking for, that's why we came to this WINdow. Teller is now switched from pattern B, to pattern C of paying out.
There is a little more to it than that, but that's the basic technique (that I can fit into the lame character count on this MTV generation attention span forum).

This is a simple interrupt of a train of thought. Trains of thought, like behaviour, are autonomous, automatic units of behaviour. For a teller at the track, who has been working a long time, certain thought patterns are automatic. Derren simply interrupted one automatic pattern and switched it to the other. How, you ask?
1) Dad says "This is a winning ticket."
2) Teller starts pattern A, "scan the ticket".
3) Teller discovers that the ticket has a losing dog number on it an starts pattern B,
