I remember hearing this when my family lived in Mississippi, on the Gulf Coast, in the early 50's - where the shrimp boats did indeed go out. It has always brought back good memories.

Well life has a habit of whittling away at you in one form or another but nothing more than that.
Mom died in 1999 and Dad is 91 now and in good shape. I've had a few heartaches along the way but nothing that hasn't mellowed into a good memory.

Just heard about her death several days late and am saddened. This song (a different recording though I think) was originally off one of my favorite albums where she also sang duets with Frankie Laine. The album I believe was called "A Portrait of New Orleans."

We all miss and appreciate Jo so much. Indeed this is a later version than the original hit. I believe Jo had switched from Columbia to Capitol and they wanted her to re-record some of her hits. The good news is, as this song demonistrates, the new recordings were extremely good and were also recorded in hi-fidelity stereo.
