Why is the bird girl on the beginning of the video? It's Bama not Savannah. This video would be much better without the commentary.

I well know the difference between Alabama and Savannah. The bird girl represents the fight between good and evil. Did you ever watch the movie,"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"? The commentary is Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech and I used it because our town square was the scene of , "the Scottsboro Boys" trial where "good and evil" was certainly played out.

Yes i know John Berendts book very well and his meaning of good and evil and as far as comparing the Scottsboro Boys case to a movie or symbol, it could be compared to the movie "The Crucible" based on the Salem witch trials where several people were unjustly accused and condemned in the mist of contagious hysteria. Evil is evil. It knows no borders or state lines.

Some of our local tales are just that, "tales". But yes, there were lynching all over, of not only black but white. I much prefer modern times when one has to leave the country to get lynched.

God willing, Dr. King's dream will be fully realized one day, not only in the South but everywhere. I must say that as a Yankee now living in the South, I am very disturbed by the racial epithets I sometimes hear, even now.

I think the problem is still country wide, but one has to consider the source of most of those comments. Many humans tend to perfect ignorance to a high level and most of those comments are born in ignorance.

I must say that one of the most shocking things someone pointed out to me after I moved here was "a hanging tree". I wanted to get out of the car, kneel down at that tree and beg forgiveness for our country's bigotry and hate. I had never heard of "a hanging tree" before. After some research I discovered there was a whole lot of lynching going on in Indiana way back when too. How very horrible!

I simply love the square. I go there often. Paynes and the bake shop are among my favorites to to visit. I also LOVE the antique shops! You can find so many interesting things in them! I just adore the square, its a great place to take a bike ride!
