...Wow, you dont know much about what your talking about. Kung fu is rarely use for fighting anymore and it was never that effective against other skilled fighting systems. In fact in all the competitions its lost to muay thai, karate, and even EVEN TKD! And grappling is very effective. Plus Obama won the fight, ask him about whatever your talking about hes going to save everyone.

my point exactly, traditional arts were never designed for competition they were for military defence, competition has its place, however the original concept should not be forgotten, some of the moves found in karate kata is only explained to higher grades because they can be lethal in the wrong hands, most kung fu styles are not for competition, because the moves are not allowed i.e strikes to the eyes, knees, throat, groin, jujitsu also has moves you cant use in competition.

A truly strong martial art incorporates both stand up fighting and grappling. Both are very important in a real-life situation, especially if your safety is genuinely at risk. If you fight someone who say has a knife and is a smart fighter and you're a great puncher and kicker but cannot fight on the ground, he will take you to the ground and just stab you. Being able to do both is important.
