Obviously this great song is not about Joanne Woodward; it is about his own wife. But what a great tribute to an absolutely wonderful lady!

God rest both their souls - I hope they find eachother ...

Who are "both their souls"? You realize Joanne Woodward is still alive, right?

I loved this song as a kid in the early 70s. I like the way you put this slide show together. Good tune.

Interesting story:
My grandmother had met/partied with several 60's groups, mostly The Monkees. Even my mom and Aunt can account for this, they were there. Anyway, people in my family strongly believe that my grandmother had an affair with Nesmith around that time. I know it sounds fishy and fake, but her name was Joanne, ironically. I know it may not be the truth; I just wanted to share an old story. Anyone who can share any info about how he REALLY wrote this song would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that Mike wrote this as a tribute to his own wife...

There were brains behind the Monkees? Don't get me rong I was and am an ardent fan yet, a "brain" seems rather odd.

djimi66, (with all due respect)
If Mike Nesmith wasn't the brains of the Monkees, who was?
(I already know Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart wrote some of the band's hits, but the comments "WJB1957," are pretty accurate as I remember reading about the band, years after their demise.)
Thanks.

I feel it better stated that Nesmith had the best business acumen by by far of all his fellow members. Although not the creator, he did take the inititive (under protest from the rest of the group)and the good business sense to divorce them from Don Kirshner so that they; as a group, could recieve all royalty & promotional item monies due them.
Also, he forced the hands of the Monkee creators to play their own instuments at concerts and on albums.

I don't think this song was about Joanne Woodward. I bought it as a 33 1/3, one of my first buys, and I've loved it since it was first released.
Beautiful
