so many actresses are afraid to dig deep. and get ugly *by hollywood standard* for a role. Its upsetting.

This was an excellent portrayal of Piaf. However slightly frustrating for some who did not know the key people in her life. The film concentrated on the "influences" in Piaf's life which made her famous. However where was the three leg table that she would cart around the world and chant to before every performance? Theo was thrown in at the end. The movie only needed to be longer with clear definitions of who these people were. There were many men in Piaf's life, and many she made stars out of.

so once again: THAT'S what a call a REAL actress. not fat lips like keira knightly or pretty face such as sluttienna miller. no no! that's what acting is about. in hollywood there are VERY few actresses who got the looks AND the expression (smartness) - julia robert's quite such an exceptional talent, for example. However, Cotillard does not need the looks. she's had my full attention throughout the 2h i watched the movie, whether ugly or pretty! BRAVO, BRAVOOOO!!!!

i'm neither french nor american but i have to point out that this actress is amazing. far too good for hollywood.... that's a joke. hollywood doesn't solely produce junk films and junk actors. look at icons like robert de niro or al pacino. george clooney or the new james bond (what's his name again?) are extremly overrated, so is keira knigthly (fat lip, anorexic body) for example. kirstin dunst is underestimated cause she's said to lack the look. which is not true. hollywood's a dollhouse
