"a Day in the life" was not a joint effort! it was pure john... paul just through in a few verses - that's all.

mccartney was a very small part of the beatles phenomena as a whole... it was all lennon man. all lennon.... little mc just tagged along - that's all :)

I think its pretty obvious when you listen to the songs who was the primary writer. Obviously Hey Jude, Let it be, and Yesterday etc were written by Paul, and Revolution, Help, Lucy, Strawberry Fields were John's. A Day in the life was a joint effort. Most of their early stuff was written jointly, but I think you can still hear the primary influence because of the different styles. They simply agreed at the beginning to have all songs written as "Lennon and McCartney"
